Students in year 7 work in teams to develop their Personal, Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS).
ATHENA, held on a Friday morning for year 7, allows students to interact with their peers and work together to develop their skills. The aim is that students are equipped with the training to enter adult life as confident and capable individuals. As well as using the skills learnt in English, Maths and ICT, we work on developing skills in managing self; managing relationships with others; and managing own learning and work.
This half term we have been focussing on working as an individual within a team in order to achieve a common goal. The whole of year 7 is split into groups and go off working with Miss Parry, Dr Schofield, Mr Smith, Mr Duffy and Miss Spencer. Recently we made models of different types of buildings, another really exciting activity was when we were in Dr Schofield’s group and we learned how fireworks were made out of copper and different powders for colours and effects.
One of our favourite activities was having to taste different types of crisps and rate them against each other on different qualities, like taste, texture, freshness.
ATHENA always follows an assembly, at first we didn’t want to give up our form time for it, but once we got started with it and realised how much fun it is, we really look forward to it each week.
